At the bottom of the page is a list of rules that are open
for comment (see the attached screen shot below). Find the terrestrial plant rule and click on the “comment on this rule” link and you will be directed
to a page that allows you to input personal data in required fields (name,
city, county, email address) and comment about the
proposed rule. If your comments require more space than allowed with the
electronic form, please mail your comment with the LSA document number (LSA
#18-316) to the following address: Natural Resources Commission, Division
of Hearings, 100 North Senate Avenue, Room N103, Indianapolis, Indiana
46204-2200.
After much discussion at the Invasive Species Council
meeting, we feel it is best to
support the rule as written. We will work on amendments if the rule is adopted.
Amendments, which are a natural part of rules and regulations, would
include adding additional species that have been assessed as highly invasive
through the scientific assessment process that was established with multiple
partners that include representatives from various industries and agencies
(nursery, landscape architects, DNR, botanists, etc.). Amendments go through
the same process as a proposed rule. They require thorough scientific and
economic analyses, and can therefore take a year or more to become effective.
I encourage you to participate in the rulemaking process and
voice your opinion about the terrestrial plant rule. Feel to add your story
about how invasive species impact you.
In addition to this internet comment period there will be a
public meeting scheduled in the future. We do not have logistical information
about that public meeting at this time. As soon as the information is
available, I will send an email with date, time and location.
Please feel free to email with questions or comments. A big
thank you to those of you that made the trip north to the Natural Resource
Commission meeting. It was great to see you! 😊
Dawn
